NRG ORION - KRONOS SUN ENERGY ΑΕ:

Intensive on "Green development"

"The two companies have put a public bet on themselves, installation The first major project in Greece using systems support monitoring of the sun in one axis (azimuthal axis)".

From left: Nicolas Plenge (strain SOLON SE), Nicholas Tzimourtos (President and CEO of KRONOS SUN ENERGY AE), Theodosios Matopoulos (President and CEO of NRG-ORION AETE), Abraham Kirkasiadis (strain SOLON SE).

NRG ORION officially announces the assignment of a 1.5 MWp project from the company KRONOS SUN ENERGY SA, a subsidiary of KRONOS SA, a canned fruit producer in Mavrovouni, Pella.

Before mentioning the progress of this collaboration, the roots of which reach very far back, it would be prudent to make a brief reference to history.
In the 1980s, Thomas Matopoulos worked together with Mr Eleftherios Saitis, president of KRONOS SA. At the time, large quantities of canned products from the company KRONOS SA were exported via the network that Thomas Matopoulos had created abroad, thus contributing positively to our national economy. The partnership continued for many years, making the quality of Greek products famous all over the world. The relationship between the two companies was excellent, based on the mutual trust and ethical principles of the two partners. Later, these bonds passed down to the next generation and the partnership gained new goals and challenges as NRG ORION began to deal with the construction of photovoltaic works, and the company KRONOS SUN ENERGY SA was founded in order to produce energy from photovoltaics. Green development and environmental protection became a common goal

Based on the above, the two companies placed a joint bet on themselves, installing the first large plant in Greece to use sun monitoring support systems on a single axis (azimuth mount). The main priority for both companies is to use top-quality equipment and to complete projects with high reliability and very high energy efficiency. For this reason, they decided to use sun monitoring systems, which was unprecedented in such a large-scale projects in Greece. Single-axis support systems are generally preferred for reasons of reliability and low-maintenance.

It is also worth mentioning NRG ORION’s main partners and suppliers for this project, as well as a brief description of the project in question.

PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS: SOLON SE.

SOLON SE is based in Berlin and has photovoltaic panel manufacturing plants in Germany (2), Austria (1), Italy (1) and the USA (1). It is considered one of the leading companies in the sector.

INVERTERS: SMA.

SMA is the top producer of photovoltaic inverters in the world. It holds approximately 80% of the Greek market. It is constantly receiving awards for the innovation of its products. Most of them have achieved first place in test trials and performance. In Greece, SMA is the only company with technical support staff in strategic points all over the country.

SUN MONITORING SUPPORT SYSTEMS: IDEEMATEC.

IDEEMATEC is a German company with headquarters near Munich. The company’s objective is to produce sun monitoring support systems on an azimuth mount, and fixed support systems using the pole planting technique. Features of the company’s products include simplicity of assembly, high reliability over time, and high resistance to strong winds and gusts.

SUBSTATIONS: AREVA EQUIPMENT.

AREVA is a multinational company that produces medium, high and very high voltage electronic equipment. Its headquarters are in the La Défense area of Paris. SMA uses a lot of its equipment for ready-built MV substations destined for Central Europe. In Greece, wind-generated electricity plants use a large amount of equipment from AREVA. The company also holds a leading position for high and very high voltage equipment.

CABLES: LAPP KABEL, FABER KABEL.

For this project, the cables used for direct current will be made from tin-plated copper by the German company LAPP KABEL, type XLR for cross sections of 6 mm2 and XLSv for cross sections 95, 120 and 150 mm2. For medium voltage, the cables used will be type N2XSY 1x70/16 mm2 from the German company FABER KABEL. A range of different types of cable from the company DIMOULAS SA will also be used for low voltage and in communications. Most of the cables are manufactured in Germany. The aim is to ensure losses from cables of less than 1%, an unprecedentedly low percentage for such a large-scale project.

EARTHING – LIGHTNING PROTECTION: TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT, PROPSTER.

The know-how of the company TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT, owned by K. Dimitrios, will be put to good use in this project. Mr Dimitrios’ love for the subject, as well as his combination of knowledge and experience, ensures success in terms of earthing and protecting the project from lightning. Tin-plated copper tape 25 mm x 2 mm will be used for 95% of the earthing. This material will provide long-term protection for the photovoltaic plant. The ground resistivity measurements taken by the company TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT will contribute significantly to the best use of earthing material in the photovoltaic plant. Most of the joins will be made using aluminium-thermal welding. This will contribute to increased reliability and performance of the earthing system. For external lightning protection, lightning rods will be used on support systems of a suitable size and number to achieve the best result without creating catastrophic amounts of shade. Finally, a satisfactory number of surge diverters from the German company Propster will be used to protect the equipment from power surges. The company Propster is represented in Greece by the company TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT.

PROJECT DESIGN – EQUIPMENT SUPPLY – IMPLEMENTATION – PROJECT MANAGEMENT, “Turn key”: NRG-ORION.

In collaboration with the above companies, as well as with the experience it has acquired in designing and carrying out other production licensed works with a capacity of 400 kWp, NRG ORION guarantees the absolute success of the project.
The management of NRG ORION thanks the management of KRONOS SUN ENERGY SA for its confidence in assigning them a project of such importance, not only for themselves but for the development of the country. Up until now, the parent company KRONOS SA has been a healthy business, supporting the agricultural development of the prefecture of Pella and the wider region, thus contributing to decreasing unemployment, boosting Greece’s exports and winning recognition for the quality of the products it exports to countries all over the world. Similarly, KRONOS SUN ENERGY SA will contribute to the growth of Greece’s “green development” and to diminishing the environmental damage caused from the use of non-renewable forms of energy.

NRG-ORION: Have completed projects with total capacity of 4.1 MWp

“NRG-ORION officially announces the completion of projects with a total capacity of more than 4 MWp. Many of these projects have been in operation for more than 2 years, and their energy efficiency is outstanding.” The projects above were highlighted in a company presentation, which also stated: After 4 years of operation in the sector of photovoltaic systems and since the connection of the first of the company’s first project “ENERBAK” on 01/02/2008, NRG-ORION has completed projects with a total capacity of 4.1 MWp.
The table below shows all the projects that have been installed. Most of the projects have now been connected to the grid, whilst some of them are at the connection stage. The performance of all projects is outstanding. Mr. Loukas Vlachos, representative for the electricity company named ELEFTHERIA VLACHOU – SOFIA PAPAPASCHALI OE in Kastoria, said: “After 1 month of operation of the 2 photovoltaic electrical plants, each with a capacity of 99.66 kWp, to our great delight we see that, when compared to other photovoltaic plants using the same technology in the wider area, our photovoltaic plants have 15% more energy efficiency.” Mr Michalis Papapaschalis, representative of the same company, mentioned: “It has finally been proven that the choice of NRG-ORION was correct. We believe that the top quality equipment used, in combination with the excellent design, will have long-term benefits that will balance out and offset the additional cost.” NRG-ORION has experience in projects with capacities between 20 kWp and 1.5 MWp.

The President and CEO of NRG-ORION, Mr Matopoulos Theodosios, commented that: “Our company policy is for our projects to reach perfection. My staff and myself keep constantly up-to-date with developments in the industry, as well as those in similar industries that are directly related to our projects. We are very interested in detail. We believe that there are many companies in the field, and many investors. A great number of photovoltaic projects have been completed in the last year. Unfortunately, mistakes are made in many cases, sometimes irreversibly.

For example, the need to move a heliostat because it is in a shaded position is irreversible. So investors have to be very careful because even the larger companies in the industry have made tragic mistakes, and it is the investors who will eventually have to pay. Seriousness is crucial when handling projects, even those for the smallest roofs. Investors spend large sums of money that they have either acquired with great effort, or that they have borrowed.

So the aim must be for their investment to be profitable and safe.” Beyond the projects it carries out, NRG-ORION trades in systems for small installations. An online facility is being created for direct purchases of photovoltaic products. Products will be distributed from the company’s warehouse at Vathylakkos, Thessaloniki, and there will be an opportunity for direct shipment to the buyer.
